Re: V4: Late War - Armies of War

Well..... My copy of ‘Armies of Late War’arrived today. Fantastically laid out / presented (BF still know how to put a decent book together). .....that’s it for the positives sadly (clearly it’s a very ‘general’ book (ignore pun), rather than being theatre specific - all a bit underwhelming really (...

Re: V4: Late War - Armies of War

Yep - same chap (Mr Strelkovy himself) I think you have hit on something with Scenario play - could be the way forward locally with the current V4 ruleset and V3 ‘power creep’ army lists (although in fairness and with the exception of Market Garden / Bridge by Bridge), opposing armies selected from ...

Re: V4: Late War - Armies of War

....back to the old adage: if it isn’t broke don’t fix it! Feels to me like BF are going through a transition similar to GW when they launched the ‘garbage’ 6th edition of 40k; a few years later they are on 8th edition which I think is a fantastic system but clearly it’s just a simplified / iterated...

Believe it or not, latest rumour (from a very informed source) is that Eastern Front (Mid War) is unlikely to be available before Q4 2018 :(

V4: Late War - Armies of War

Saw this..... http://btassault.wpengine.com/armies-of-late-war-book-review-first-thoughts/ Still not made up my mind in terms of ‘Allied’ Formations - being able to use British and American formations (various combos of Infantry and Armour) simultaneously in the same force (V3 Market Garden currentl...

Got to love the BF pricing structure.....
- Six Humvee - £30
- Six Humvee and Three M60 - £34.

Go figure......

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

It was pointed out yesterday that the Deep Reserves rule is very tough on tank-only companies (like the old mobile reserves, but more so - only one unit with Front Armour 4 or greater). Also, there was some confusion above about games - my intent had been to go for two 'competitive' games (while st...

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

(Is this too silly/unusual?) No - it's just different and there's no harm in that; I'd be happy to try it...... The alternative may be to cap forces at a constant 1500pts for all games and be strict with time / number of turns (as a way of managing the day) De-escalation with Tank Companies gets my...

This 60% will be of the final agreed points level, so if e.g. a player brought a 1475pt list to a 1500pt game, they would still be allowed to place 900pts on the board.

Makes sense; any idea when final points will be agreed? (....just in case I need to paint some tanks!)

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

Assuming there will be missions with 'Reserves' what is the ruling re: points on the board (for 1500 pts games, it's normally 900 pts <60%>). If we are playing 1525 pts, are we going to maintain the 60% 'rule' and allow 915 pts on the board?

Re: 2018 Tournament Points

Early and even Mid seem sensible (although I've still not played a game of Mid with new points - but in theory, having looked at the new books it seems 'sensible'). Tournament organisers could have their work cut out at 1780pts of late war; it's awesome news for Armoured companies - nightmare for Me...

Re: Back to V3 - discuss

I was a huge advocate of moving to V4 on the basis that BF had done their homework and were managing a timely rollout of revised army lists. .....how naive am I?? Lots of events (Welsh Open being the most recent I’m aware of) reverted back to V3 as there were too many ambiguities with list structure...

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

Again, I don't have my books with me, so I'd have to check. From memory, is that one platoon of halftracked infantry and one of Wespes as the core units? As good as; they are actually Pioneers in KFZ 70's with Wespes backed by Armour choices in the Support Platoon list. Another one that crossed my ...

Market Garden is the 'go to' book for British / Canadian lists The para list from MG is almost identical yet objectively worse than the O list! Time to find a list that plays as many Fireflies and M10s as possible, if Alex is coming with StuGageddon again :D Overlord certainly doesn't have double fireflies, just the standard "one per platoon", except for the 4th guards that offer a single 4 unit "Firefly platoon" instea...

Not that my view counts for anything (Alex can organise whatever he likes) but potentially owning more tank companies than the 'average bear', I'd endorse 'Overlord/Atlantik Wall; Red Bear/Grey Wolf; Fortress Italy / Road to Rome' as excellent books for consistent matched play on the day. Bradleys are coming in 'late' TY, along with M1A1s, Apaches, etc, so likely to be a desert/middle east setting. Main thing I'm grumpy about is the lack of Blackhawks, but it makes sense to use the Huey given the Nam/early TY revamp thats coming. Interested to see how they handle the twin engined hu...

That's the thought at this point - although I'm happy to discuss if people desperately want to play something else. In my opinion, tanks play easier and faster, as well as meeting the theme. Yep - that's my logic given the earlier pitch re: Fast/easy; not sure what the 'official' Tournament points ...

TY: T72 points reduction under discussion

UK events are showing that T72s (and T64s but that's for later) are not appearing in games. This is leading to huge Soviet BMP and infantry spam by the logic of 'if something is going to die, best it's not really expensive.....and there's a daft number of them' Given the UKGT was rather dominated by...

Re: Stockists and V4

Firestorm stock is not what it once was - sadly. The transition from V3 to V4 appears to have led to a dip in interest (and Firestorm can better use the space for other products). They have a decent range of the plastic box sets for both TY and Mid / Late; sadly the awesome stock of blister packs th...
