Re: V4: Late War - Armies of War

....back to the old adage: if it isn’t broke don’t fix it! Feels to me like BF are going through a transition similar to GW when they launched the ‘garbage’ 6th edition of 40k; a few years later they are on 8th edition which I think is a fantastic system but clearly it’s just a simplified / iterate...

Re: V4: Late War - Armies of War

Robin Spence? If so, nice chap, played a good game against my brother, and a very smartly painted force. Battlegroup has interesting bits that I very much like, but for me the scale is too small - activation by units (single tanks, infantry teams), 'admin' for tracking things (infantry casualties, i...

Re: V4: Late War - Armies of War

That's very disappointing if true. I really don't feel that the v4 roll-out has been well managed - the rules inherently are somewhat split between desert MW "full" v4, and EW/LW "v3.9"; the fact that Eastern Front MW has not been properly rolled into either of these means that v...

Re: Campaign Challenges and Battles

Agreed - let's scrub for this weekend and re-plan. Fingers crossed for the MOT; hope you both pass and that there's no massively expensive rectification required. I don't have a good feel for how long a bigger game of BFG will take, but are we still assuming that we probably want a weekend day, rath...

Re: Campaign Challenges and Battles

Probably not. We've got several bands playing that day and I'm likely to be rather tied up with that. Fair enough - real life comes first! If we can get David in (I'll email him on Mon), then let's stick with Sun 19th for 2v2; if we're down to only three players then I'd suggest it might be better ...

Re: Campaign Challenges and Battles

With one week to go until the proposed date, are people still up for a game? If so, I'd propose the following: Time: Sun 19th, 1530 start (aim for, if we have to delay a bit for Stu to join us then we will) Points: Assuming 4 players (2x Imperial vs Chaos and Orks), 2000pts if you can; please let us...

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

On the basis that we're four weeks out, and there's a (slim) majority, let's go with singles games at 1550 and 1400, and a team game at 1250pts. So, final details (unless there's a massive outcry): Date: Sun 03 Dec Times: setup from 0900; first round 0930 - 1200; second round 1230 - 1500; third roun...

Re: Campaign Challenges and Battles

Sunday 19th should be fine for me. I'll be happy to slap down whatever points value we have time for, but suspect it might come down to how many people we end up with? Are we using ships/refits/admirals/leadership as per our campaign rosters? It's your campaign! But for what it's worth, I'd suggest...

Any objections to Sun 19th as a planning date, then?

And what are people's thoughts regarding points - 1500 each? Or even 2000?

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

It was pointed out yesterday that the Deep Reserves rule is very tough on tank-only companies (like the old mobile reserves, but more so - only one unit with Front Armour 4 or greater). In my opinion, this is a feature, not a bug, but will lead to the following considerations: -Be aware that we are ...

Re: Campaign Challenges and Battles

What are people's preferences and availabilities? My weekday availability is patchy, and depends on work, but if I book something in early I can plan around that; my weekends are generally good for the next few weeks. My gut feeling is that this game may well need several hours (especially if we go ...

Re: Campaign Challenges and Battles

Chatting with Peter yesterday, I feel this has somewhat faded out and lost momentum; not to mention that I think the rankings in terms of renown are probably pretty close to unassailable. So, rather than let this just fizzle out, what would people say to a single big game to finish things off? The c...

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

I'll let this stand for at least a week, maybe two, to let people have a think about things. I'd quite like to confirm next week, but will definitely write up an event pack, including final final details NLT Mon 06 Nov, giving four weeks from that date until the event.

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

We seem to be settled nearly-unanimously on LW, and there's also a solid preference for Sunday 3rd Dec. No objections heard to the proposed list of books, either. As for points, my proposal is as follows; people can then criticise and throw stones as they wish. Points will be a De-Escalation format!...

Re: Tanksgiving 2017

Missions will be selected using the "stances" (attack/manoeuvre/defend) from the More Missions PDF; missions with Reserves (incl Delayed, Scattered, Deep) will use the standard 60% on the board. This 60% will be of the final agreed points level , so if e.g. a player brought a 1475pt list t...

I've started putting together a map on Google Maps showing the major sights etc, plus the two main options regarding routes. It should be viewable to everyone, so please let me know if I've screwed up and it somehow isn't.

Re: WW2 France Road Trip, Summer 2018

I've started having a look at prices for this as a concept: -It looks like ferry costs are about £50-£75 per person for the round trip, varying a little based on route, and mostly whether we're in one vehicle or two. -Use of our own cars is just down to running costs incl fuel etc, although drivers ...

Re: Back to V3 - discuss

There's definitely a need for more errata than is currently in even the FAQ document, and I can't shake the feeling that v4 was probably released well before it was ready. If I ruled the world - or at least Battlefront - I would have playtested v4 a lot more, with a wide range of groups, terrain typ...

Re: 2018 Tournament Points

Interesting - my feeling is that this will exacerbate some of the issues with v4 (i.e. the disparity in how easy companies with lots of core units are to break vs support-heavy choices), unless the new v4 forces book is both well balanced and actively mandated by tournament organisers. Although, on ...

Free gaming mat

Battlefront are offering free gaming mats to clubs, while stocks last. I'm aware that we've got some good tables, but as a topper for e.g. a space table, or to give easy options for a desert table, this might be useful - and they look decent quality: https://flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=5447 H...

Re: Campaign Challenges and Battles

Things have been a bit quiet, and the campaign seems to have come to a bit of a halt, but I eventually have some free time again in November - would anyone fancy a game in the first week? (Weds 1st or Thurs 2nd would be best for me)

Happy to either play as part of the campaign, or a standalone game.

1500 per player, but possibly on an 8x6' table, rather than 6x4'?

Re: "Operation Goulash", Weds 18th

I may, theoretically, have an upper points limit to what I'm able to field. I suspect that calculating it would take a long time, and might well scare me. Maybe others.

It's probably more useful for other people to chime in with what they can (or want to) field.

"Operation Goulash", Weds 18th

I'm kind of jumping on Seb and Peter's bandwagon here, but they've been building a narrative (if I can use such a grandiose term...) around a Hungarian democratic uprising, supported by British special forces, and the fascist counterattacks and reprisals. The last game of which I was a part saw Germ...
