Get some! USMC painting blog

So, given that I’m a fairly firm painter and collector, and now working at an even more inconvenient distance from the Old Duke, I thought I might share some pics of what I’ve done so far and some WIPs as well. If anyone wants to share ang WW3 related modelling & painting tips on here then feel ...

Re: Free Nations - May Release

I can see what my NATO support formation is very likely to be: French AMX-10rc or VAB mounted infantry. I love the look of those vehicles (in game stats? Pah! Who cares! :D )

Re: Free Nations - May Release

It’s all good. But this is even better:

https://forces.team-yankee.com/

Forces is not essential for TY obvs, cos it’s a fairly simple back of an envelope exercise to put together a list. But Forces does allow me to tinker when I should be working! :)

I will be looking for TY games very soon I hope

PSC acquires Armies Army

Just seen an email that PSC has acquired Armies Army, and will now sell all their range under the Modern section of PSC site, plus a load of new stuff that AA never got round to release. I haven’t checked it all out in detail - except no new US stuff :( - but it looks like there’s plenty of new toys.

Re: 2018 Roll Call

Oo-oh say, can you see... a fully painted US army? Not quite. Currently I have available: 5 x M1 Abrams worth 40 points, 45 if proxied for M1IPTs 4 x VADS 6 points I've decided that my quickest route to a playable formation, that's a foundation to build on, is to go with Armoured Cavalry. So, on the...

Re: 2018: Rumour / Lies?

For me, FoN never felt that it distinguished itself from LW FoW to make it worth the investment of time & £ in the models (which were all resin & metal). IDF were effectively Brits/Americans, with upgunned Shermans and Sho’t Centurions, while the Egyptians were Russians in all but name, with...

Re: 2018: Rumour / Lies?

There’ll be a Gulf War version of TY, with all the toys. Once they’re released then nothing to stop anyone from painting them green and playing them in Europe.

Hopefully they’ll take the opportunity to fix V4 when they align with TY, rather than another cludge

Re: Stripes: Intel / Releases

Good point. I’ll see how I get on with the Seahawks (for the USMC grunts) before deciding on any more transport helis. The AAVP-7 looks pretty cool too, especially when bedecked in stowage for a full US ‘gypsy caravan’ look. I was going to do my Cobras as USMC, in ghost grey, but will wait to see wh...

It does look like it! Not sure you’d fit much under the turret overhang! Certainly both turret hatches can be crewed, unlike BF M1s that needed fettling to have both open. Or Zvezda, which usually has none.

PSC M60A3 is due out in Jan, with 10% off for pre-orders. That’s £19.35 for 5 tanks; can’t go wrong for that.

I shall be buying the Digital version later today. If PSC are doing an M60 then I’m def waiting for that. Just hope he does HMMMVs, LAVs and AAVPs too! I’ve decided to add HQ M113 & 2 scout sections to my 5 painted M1s & 4 VADS to make an armoured cav formation, then expand from that. Alread...

PSC Leopard 1 released

Morning all. Announcement from PSC that new plastic Leopard 1 is now available. 5 model tanks in the box
Options to build A1/A3 or Canadian C1 variants.
Undoubtedly better value than BF if you’re buying in volume.

Re: V4: Late War - Armies of War

As you know, I have not played a great deal for the last, er ever, but I do think BF have messed up with V4. They seemed to think they can get more players by making it simpler, but since when have wargames ever been simple? I really don't understand why FoW and TY need different rules for the basic...

Pre-orders are up on BF site; just in time for Xmas! :) All the new stuff looks v nice. Once the book is out I can decide if I want to go Marines or Air Mobile. Not too enamoured with mech platoons or M113s in MERDC. My M1s are done - yay! Now working on Cobras in USMC colours (only cos it looks nic...

Re: Stripes: Intel / Releases

Bradleys are coming in 'late' TY, along with M1A1s, Apaches, etc, so likely to be a desert/middle east setting. Main thing I'm grumpy about is the lack of Blackhawks, but it makes sense to use the Huey given the Nam/early TY revamp thats coming. Interested to see how they handle the twin engined hue...

Stripes is due late Nov - Yay! Disappointing lack of Bradleys and Blackhawks, but maybe those will follow. USMC might be fun; Peter Pig has some lovely little USMC guys that I already have a ton of. I was going to mix them with BF to make a couple of mech platoons, but I may hold off and see what ha...

I'm guessing you've all seen the 'Total War' PDF thats on the TY site along with Red Thunder launch stuff? Basically rules for multi-formation, multi-player 150-400+ point games. What's not to like?

From Will today: The PSC design team have just started work on a 15mm Leopard 1 kit with A1, A3/4, Gepard, A5 and C1 options (to be confirmed) This follows on from demand for their new 15mm T55 with more options than you can ever want or need. It did strike me as odd that BF chose to do high points ...

I came to the same conclusion. No end of wargaming sites with double sided Confederate flags. I may use one or two of those on my 1980s US tanks, cos I'm old enough to remember Dukes of Hazzard, and the Southern Cross being a fashion symbol! I've been experimenting with tinfoil for tarps, so will tr...

Re: Stockists and V4

Can't fault Firestorm for online service. Prices are comparable to Wayland games, ie 10% off list, but they don't advertise the same breadth of range. That said, they're generally quicker than Wayland to get specific items to order. Occasional bargains come up on eBay; I recently got a new, sealed b...

Anybody know where I can acquire modern era 15mm (or scalable) wargaming flags, esp US Stars & Stripes? Not bothered if decal, paper, free or £. I want to use flags on aerials, or draped over vehicles, to denote HQ teams, but all I can find online is ACW stuff. I could paint them freehand on tin...

Re: Team Yankee Campaign Interest?

I'm about to finish 4 VADs, after a long dry spell of very sporadic painting. Plus I have a box of M1 Abrams on the way, which could be done by August with a bit of luck. Re: Help to choose airbrush

A lot also depends on your budget. For wargaming minis, the cheaper end of the market is probably enough. I use a dual-action Neo by Iwata, which is the beginner level Iwata brush. Dual-action is essential cos it means you're controlling both the airflow and the quantity of paint delivered. I would ...
