Not much of a drinker, so I'll be headed over to BIG for X-Wing. Appreciate the offer, though. It's not often I get invited out for a pint. :D

Re: Bear Wars II - Playoffs

People mostly don't bring the super filthy tournament style lists to Bear Wars so different styles of lists are more successful Thanks for saying I won because everyone took sub-optimal (read: S***) lists, Sam. :D I managed to beat James' top-16-at-Nationals BroBot list with my All-Stars, so I'd sa...

Re: So I Bought a 7th ed Rulebook

Assuming you have the tactical cards, it's a deck of cards that you draw from as described in the set up for the Maelstrom of War missions - cards numbered 11-66 each with a specific mission printed on it. If you look in the rulebook at the mission objective chart - a D66 chart - they're exactly the...

Re: So I Bought a 7th ed Rulebook

The codex-specific cards are limited. You might get lucky and find some in a non-GW shop, or on eBay. The generic cards and the psychic cards are on general sale from the website, GW stores, and any of their stockists. Necrons will be the only cards you're missing though, as the other factions you h...

For what it's worth, the 40k crowd at Vanguard is fairly varied, and some are willing to play against the ultra power lists. Just make it clear before you ask for a game what kind of game you're after, and you'll be fine. :D

Re: What to do in the Age of Sigmar. Or, where to get my competitive fix. An Essay.

If you want a balanced, competitive game, play X-Wing. Like James said, we have some of the best competitive gamers in the country here in Bristol (at Nationals, our very own Vargas mad the top 16 cut, and the rest of us finished in the top half of the table - Skindog beat two previous UK champions)...

Re: Codex Space Marine house rules.

That's the point; it's for friendly games so I can use my toys, and get to use new stuff like the doctrines and formations... And I'm not suggesting that a Sicaran goes in a squadron of predators for example, I'm just suggesting that where a formation lets you take a squadron of vehicles, you can ta...

Re: Codex Space Marine house rules.

I'd forgotten about Invisibility, as a tool of the cowards and servants of Chaos... How'd you get the re-rollable part? Is there a power in Divination that lets you re-roll failed saves? The Siege Breaker would only work in a squadron of three Vindicators. If you wanted a laser destroyer Vindicator,...

Re: Codex Space Marine house rules.

Do you have a massive forgeworld order pending Cai? Personally I wouldn't mind if you wanted to house-rule that, sounds more like the rule of cool than power gaming, though not too sure on the libby conclave. It's already stupidly good with Tigurius, although taking Sevrin Loth isn't that much more...

Re: Codex Space Marine house rules.

In light of the new codex, I think a couple of house rules should be implemented to allow the use of some of the cool Forgeworld toys within the formations, stuff like the Sicaran, Deredeo, or the really cool laser destroyer Vindicator. Otherwise, people have to stick with a CAD, which isn't a prob...

Re: Highlander event?

I'll be up for this so long as LoW/super heavies are out, but I'm a fan of unbound being allowed as in this format it can't really be abused. If the majority feel they simply can't play 40K without LoW/Super heavies then perhaps they play with less points than those that don't. Serious question, no...
