9th Age Map Based Campaign

Postby Munkey » Wed Aug 19, 2015 10:24 am

Just a quick look to see who would be interested In taking part in a 9th Age map based campaign?

You know the type... Win battles, capture terrain, build a bigger army... Conquer the World.

There would also be opportunities for people who can't commit fully to take part as the "neutral" factions!

So, who's up for some 9th Age action?

In theory games could be played "whenever" but I would be hoping that most games might be played on a Tuesday.

Looking at numbers to begin with and then will complete the "rules" accordingly.

Nice one TinGod.

Oh and it will be one of those "expand you realm, make deals and then stab each other in the back" type campaigns!

It was old dogs and new tricks!

Back to the original point of this thread - ive wanted to do a map based campaign for ages and ages and ages and ages. Pretty much the reason I got in to Warhammer, but locally there never seemed to be much interest. However, Im about to start the 3rd year of my degree so I wont have enough time to keep up with the updates of the BETA version of the game as regularly as once per week.

Have they put any sort of timeframe on its development? Ill be interested in giving it a go once its finished, and possibly committing to a campaign.

Either way I think allowing casual involvement is a good idea. People are still going to want to try other systems for a bit so asking for a lot of commitment so soon after the game was released might be a bit much - when were you thinking of starting the campaign? I may sign up to be a random Orc who just can arrive, raise hell, leave and just put up with not knowing the rules fully in the odd weeks I cant get a game of Kings of War. This would leave it open to Age of Sigmar players too - perhaps their souls can be saved?

Is there a reason this is 9th age instead of 8th? Seems like it might be a better idea to transition over to 9th age once it is finalised instead of being privy to all the rule changes, but I am interested in peoples thoughts.

Well they are releasing updates and in some cases new books for the various races and also the new stuff GW release (sigmarines being one) So it is probably a good idea to switch to this 9th age, as it should remain fresh where as 8th will likely stagnate without these updates, thats just my lowly opinion though :)

I think it's is exciting to be on the for front of a new system of rules/army books. We can provide regular feedback and play testing results for the creators of the 9th Age.

Playtesting and having the opportunity to help shape the new version of Warhammer is a good enough reason to go 9th for me!
Having said that I can't commit to regular games at the moment (especially with getting into WMH), so put me down as a neutral trouble causer please :D

Right. Got a nice number of people looking at doing this, plus a couple of others looking to represent invasions, peasant uprisings and rebel alliances!

Will be looking at fleshing out the rules over the weekend. You can make these things super-duper complicated but I will be looking to keep nice and simple, with a focus on fun games!

I am thinking this will be a points scored system... With extra points up for grabs for things like uploading battle reports etc.

I wi also want to issue updates via other media, so I reckon a Whatsapp group might be a good way to accomplish this. I will pm people to get numbers.

Well the maps been built and is getting sprayed green, ready for some highlights and details.

Thanks to Jim, I've got a nice big board for it.

Rules are well on their way. Nice and simple and easy to do for those who can't get a game in...as long as they have a D6 handy!

Looking forward to this :)

Couple of questions:
1 When can we start :)
2 Will you allow Kings of war games as-well as 9th age?
