V4 Round Robin

Postby Wiggles » Mon May 22, 2017 10:51 pm

So I am both late to the party and slightly out of the loop and I need to get to grips with V4.

Would people be up to playing some round robin games, with a suitably low points level?

Wednesday the 31st has been suggested. I don't know if old points values are usable, but would 1000pts suit, maybe less?

I'd definitely be in for this. 1000pts is probably fine; while we could go even lower, it's hard to build a list which can respond to a broad range of threats at that level.

Things to note:

-The old points (and indeed old briefings) still work for v4, albeit that the balance is now significantly changed. Some units that used to be great are now not such good value (StuHs are no longer an auto-include due to the nerf to Breakthrough Gun); others that used to be marginal (most notably mortars) are now amazing. I'd have thought most of your paras ought to still be fine. Your 6-pdrs got better, not that they needed it...
-Force composition, especially at low points values, is a major consideration due to how formation morale now works. Combat, Weapons, Regimental Support and Brigade Support choices are now "core" and do count for formation morale; Divisional and Corps Support do not count. This is meant to disincentivise things like the old v3 US Arty Park. Again, ought to be fine for your paras.
-Micro-tactics regarding placement of unit leaders is a fairly major consideration, as this affects both Orders, and the ability to re-roll morale (Formation Commander has to be within range of the Unit Leader, not of the unit as a whole).
-A 4th Ed FAQ has been issued. It doesn't address some of the most absurd cases (e.g. movable foxholes), but those can be addressed with a modicum of common sense. http://www.flamesofwar.com/Portals/0/Do ... -EW-LW.pdf

Probably late for me. But I'll go with the majority.
