"Operation Goulash", Weds 18th

Postby Lavallin » Fri Oct 13, 2017 6:27 pm

I'm kind of jumping on Seb and Peter's bandwagon here, but they've been building a narrative (if I can use such a grandiose term...) around a Hungarian democratic uprising, supported by British special forces, and the fascist counterattacks and reprisals. The last game of which I was a part saw German anti-partisan forces, supported by an armoured train, get comprehensively defeated, so I'm not quite sure what the next step is. I suspect it involves dispatching a certain Panzer Division which historically spent April 1944 training in Hungary...

So, do we want to play something next week, and if so, what? And with whom?

A 2v2 could well work (or I can bring a many-point list again); I think this week we discussed the possibility of Germans and the Hungarian Arrow-Cross joining forces against Paras and some heavier armour which had finally made it up through Greece (if Andy wants to join us).

I'd be equally happy with any configuration really. If Andy would like to join in then two Brit armies against the fascist Arrow Cross backed by the Germans seems like a good plan.

Otherwise I'm happy to continue playing the volunteer resistance forces supported by Brits against the German invaders!

I'm happy to team up with Alex on this one. Do we fancy 1k per person again?

Your call - 1k feels on the low side for a true 2v2, but I'll go with the majority.

I'm always happy to put more boots on the ground if people fancy it! What would you recommend?

I may, theoretically, have an upper points limit to what I'm able to field. I suspect that calculating it would take a long time, and might well scare me. Maybe others.

It's probably more useful for other people to chime in with what they can (or want to) field.

Well the MG book seems to be all Veteran so point cost of my units has gone up somewhat compared to my Overlord list from last week - so it seems I should hit 2k without any trouble, possibly more - whether I can keep track of and effectively use so many pieces at once, is another matter of course :)
Lots of painting Mon & Tues again for me :D

More than happy to play 1.5k per person, as long as we have a mission that has sufficient deployment space! It felt a little crowded last time already.

Should we limit ourselves to "early" late war - i.e. overlord, or does anything go? As previously noted, it makes effectively no difference to me.

I think that 1500pp might work, I suspect that things will play reasonably quickly as there'll be two people per side.

1500 per player, but possibly on an 8x6' table, rather than 6x4'?

I'm happy with any restrictions; as it's your fluff, I'm happy for you to set the pace.

Happy with 1.5k & EL-War if that's what you want, chief.

Oh my!

Well then, keep it overlord for now? Use the same guidelines as for Tanksgiving (other than the tanks part obvs.) Unless anyone has any objections.

I think your table idea might also be the way to go.

Nice report, the pics came out great. I think I'll stick to playing as conscripts when siding with the Brits and then the regular army when siding with Germans. Playing some civil war!

Hi Chaps,
Will have to pull out for tonight as I've picked up the dreaded office lurgy that's been doing the rounds, so won't be headed in to Duke's tonight.
Pretty sure nobody would thank me for coughing, sneezing and spluttering all over them and their models, anyway.
