Board game clubs in Bristol?

Postby Rubick » Mon Nov 10, 2014 9:31 pm

My girlfriend has expressed interest in playing board games during the week but I don't really know if there are any regular clubs or meetings. Got her hooked on settlers of Catan, Agricola and Puerto Rico and it would be nice to play new people and games.

I remember seeing people at the king bill on a wednesday and have heard forbidden planet do a night? Anyone able to give me any more info or a recommendation?

Settlers is EPIC. I've got it on my cell phone.

The Wednesday meet at The King Billy is primarily a chess meet, but they're happy for anyone to turn up and play games.

I believe the following are still running:

Tuesday - Bristol Board Gamers Group - The Barley Mow - 39 Barton Road, Bristol BS2 0LF - 19:30hrs onwards
Wednesday - King William Pub - Queens Square -19:00 onwards
Thursday - Forbidden Planet - Clifton Heights Triangle - 17:00hrs to 20:00hrs
Thursday - Area 51 - 230 Gloucester Rd - 19:00hrs to 00:00hrs
Friday - The Old Duke (If enough people turn up)

B-I-G in Brislington have a space upstairs for Boardgames, but no regular community yet. Early days.

The Barley Mow is probably your best/biggest bet.

Hope this helps.

There's also So Board in Bristol that meet once a month (I think) at the Drawbridge. Search for it on Facebook maybe? Otherwise I can find out the details for you.

I believe the Area 51 games night is actually a Monday.
So Board In Bristol is the last sunday of every month, and, as has been stated, is at the drawbridge.
There is a wed night gaming group at the Drawbridge too.
The Area 51 night, Barley Mow & Drawbridge gaming all have facebook groups.

As the say on 'The Dice Tower' board game network - 'Have fun gaming!' :-)

Games: Dreadball - Void Sirens & Hobgoblins; Attack Wing; lots of boardgames; RPG - Pathfinder, FATE, Dungeon World & Savage Worlds

Im a regular at the Bristol Board Game club at the Barley Mow on Tuesdays and highly reccommend it. Just turn up about 7ish and see if there is anything you would like to join in. A wide range of games get played (recently ive played Power Grid, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Galaxy Trucker) and theres a good selection of ales on tap :D
