Risk Legacy Campaign anyone?

Postby ThreeCubed » Sun Feb 15, 2015 11:44 am

Just wondering if there is any interest in a playing through Risk Legacy?

It's been on my to do list for a while, but I need to find 3 or 4 other people who are up for it and for seeing a whole campaign through..

The campaign, if you don't know, runs over about 15 games of Risk and has interesting mechanics where you write on the board, open secret envelopes and build your empire over time.

The plan is to find a group, all chip in for the game and then give it a whirl - playing maybe 1 game every fortnight until it is complete.

Let me know if you are interested. It should be fun.

For more info, check out the game online. However, be careful of spoilers (That's right, the game has secrets and spoilers - how cool is that!!!!)

Whenever was good for the group who wanted to play it. I thought we would see who we have and then look at dates each time we play. I'm open to suggestions of other ways of doing it though. TBH I haven't thought that far ahead. ;-)

I just can't do Tues. ;-)
And I will be RPGing every other Mon starting soon. However, I think it could work round people schedules and the dates could shift around a little - a bit like the Dreadball league.

The most important thing for me, really, is to find committed people and go from there. The game sucks if people drop out. That's why I though it would be good if everyone chips in for the game - to give them a bit of ownership.

How similar is it to the RISK board game? I love RISK so could be up for this.

Yeah, my understanding is that it is basically Risk, except that as the game progresses, the wins and choices you make become evident on the board - you write on it, different decisions get made that effect the game, cards get ripped up etc. I think you stay with the same power/faction throughout the campaign. Each game is a basic game of Risk but with a few extras that have been built in by the group. I can't go in to too much detail as I have avoided reviews etc due to spoilers. The unknown is part of the fun of this game.

I would be up for fridays, and this game should be a hit for anyone who likes Risk. The game doesn't add crazy or more complicated rules, so should be ok for all gamers. I'm actually more interested in how the Legacy system works - the element where things adapt, change and secrets are opened up as a campaign progresses. There is a Pandemic Legacy coming out in Q4 of this year too!

So, Monk,Rach, Azzabat and Loki (+me) would be our 5 if we are all in.

Not exactly. You can, but it gets hard to do.

ThreeCubed wrote:The game doesn't add crazy or more complicated rules.

The rules change pretty significantly as more boxes open, my campaign is 9 games in and we've triggered most events, and it doesn't really feel like the same game it was at the start. It's great fun though.

Yeah, I am making assumption from what I have heard people say. It's tricky to describe a game you know nothing about, and also don't want to know anything about before playing. Thanks for the clarifications.
As for the rules, I think I was just trying to clarify that it isn't gonna turn into a complex, '40 pages of rules' game. Atleast, I hope it isn't.

That's back up to 5 then. I'm cool with Fridays. Or ... any other day really, as I practically live at The Duke anyway.

First friday in March then, 6th? How's that for you others?
The game will probably be around £45, so we'll just split it 5 ways if that's cool with everyone. I'm happy to pony up the dough in advance, and can just grab it of you guys at the 1st meet.
I'll have a look to see if I can support a FLGS, but if not I'll just Amazon the sucker!

Thanks for the interest Kolgoth. I'll let you know if a space opens up.

I popped into Excelsior at lunchtime, they have a copy of Risk Legacy it's £50 on the shelf (I don't know how money off works there as I had 10% of x-wing stuff but not Magic TG)

If it helps, I can pop in Excelsior some other lunchtime before the 6th and pick it up.

My gaming group has played through 3 Risk Legacy campaigns and we are doing a 4th later this year.
The last 2 can be read about here and here.

It is great fun for fans of Risk and really mixes up the play style.

Warning - those links will have spoilers in them.

A little thing about the game, do not reveal what is written below.

Do not even look at what is written below. Ever.

So you looked at this message anyway. As you are the sort of person who likes to disobey, you'll like to know about the hidden envelope.

Under the inner tray, in the box, is an envelope labelled "DO NOT OPEN, EVER". The contents of this envelope are random between 4 different things. Open at your own Risk. The contents are VERY game changing and can be dangerous. To everyone.

You have been warned.

We found it by accident.
