Question: What is the minimum age for entrants? As my 16 year old lad is interested in coming too.

OK thanks. Got to check with the wife if I can have the car for the day instead of riding the bike if I bring him.
EDIT: Skindog, next time you edit the original post to add somebody could you spell my name right? Sorry I get a bit OCD.

Its FFG Tourny rules, so all straight up Dogfights, 100pts and usually 75min time limit.

Are you still playing with the idea of using planets as well as asteroids? Because tbh Im not to sure about the idea of planets. I appreciate they are just like really big asteroids but they could have a negative effect on the meta. For instance with Biggs you usually try to keep him behind asteroids to give him and extra evade dice, with these large planets it would be much easier to keep Biggs behind a planet thus giving the Rebel player a large advantage.

I do agree that I'd rather stick as close the the 'official' game as possible.

I don't think that that was ever intended to most games. They would be a VERY big asteroid. I've not seen them used at the Duke yet.

They were just pretty bits of scenery so I popped them on the tables early on. This prompted some chat about odd rules you could add, like gravity wells etc.

Yeah, gonna stick to just the asteroid tokens as per the rulespack, so ignore any previous post about asteroids. I wrote that thinking it would be a nice touch & the more I thought about it the less appealing it became simply down to a rules level it could really skew the balance.

Devils Advocate time.

Regarding the upgrade cards ruling from the Starting X-Wing thread. Does the ruling mean I can use this card for example? It has been published digitally by FFG and is currently just as tournament legal as Imperial Aces and any other proxied card.

No, released sets only. So no preview cards. Sorry, should have clarified in my previous post, with the preview cards we don't have all the different possibilities so some may actually be more over powered now than when the box comes out. I fully expect imperial aces to become legal soon enough, it just depends on when they update the faq, if anyone believes anything from imperial aces is overly powerful feel free to say & I will consider if it does need removing or not. Please continue to be devils advocate so that I can fill any gaps/loop holes, its easier to clarify them now than on the day when on the spot with a game in the line.

I will consolidate these questions into the first thread at some point. (I usually use my phone & it is challenge enough to post let alone do anything else!)

Just to confirm in this thread. What is going to be the deal with proxies? I presume that all ships have to have actual ship models and we'll need actual dials for each of them.

In terms of pilots/upgrades etc. I'm somewhat torn, ideally it should be a proxy-free setting, as per the tournament rules pack, but given the availability issues in the UK this isn't always practical (B-Wings and TIE Interceptors, oh my!). On the other hand, I kind of like the idea that some things are rarer and that people should just use what they have, beg, borrow or steal.

If we proxy upgrades, then why not proxy everything, after all, the maneuver dials can be found online and the ships are just playing pieces fundamentally and it's only the bases that are important.

So yeah, rambling on a bit and not sure what the ideal solution is, so anybody else's thoughts? Or more importantly, the TO's thoughts?

I would say yeah, you need the models, its still a while off yet, I expect at least excelsior to have a re stock before the tournament, I would like to keep it proxy free, the ideal situation would be no proxies, but since its the first tournament & not FFG official & every one is fairly new/ to entice potential new players to the dark side I think a little leniency is justified.

so ruling is; you MUST have the proper models & dials, upgrade/ pilot cards I allow to be print outs. You are going to need your own asteroid & damage decks & movement templates as I can't provide any.
