Postby Syneri » Sun Mar 23, 2014 9:05 pm

Hey guys, just to keep you up to date:

23/03 Update:

Some reserves now in! Money across asap please:

Conor Mcnama P207
Rob Bradley P208
James W Headford P209
Ceri Headford P210
Russ Ward P211

If you are near the top of the reserves I would definitely keep an eye on the thread, the next week is normally the biggest week for drops. I will be in the US in the week leading up to the event but will do my best to keep you updated as/when/if spots appear.

Main thing I would say is only go for a high comp score if you REALLY want first turn/to choose type of deployment. I'd only bother if you have a really shooty army, ie dwarves to give you an extra turn of shooting, or a lot of monsters so that you only have 1 turn of being shot at before making combat. By and large at the weekend it made little difference (Russ, Slawek & I all in too 10 with company scores of 1, 0 & 2) - unless you really care there's no point taking the soft points and making your army worse for minimal gain! Equally I wouldn't take an army that can be caught out by someone forcing you to play battle for the pass (if very static and no long range threat).

Ideally you're looking at a score of 1 - simply for the +2 against anyone fielding a 0 list without actually sacrificing anything meaningful.

Optimal score would be 3 - your opponent would need a core of 6 or more to get +2 to rolls, and you have +2 against any comp scores of 0 and 1.

A lot of the players at Gnoblars had high comp scores but didn't do so well. I played a Dwarf player with Battle for the Pass set up and it didn't really make a difference as you only need yo win by over 100pts to get the full 25pts score.

Looking at the results table, even a score of 0 could still allow you to win the game and gain top points.

Not quite true, you'll presumably have to make concessions to get to a 3 and thus make your actual army not 'optimal' in regards to the comp. I think a score of 1/2 is where its at.

Depends on your army. Take a look at the Beastmen, Bret, TK and WE comp, you'll struggle to ever achieve anything lower than a 5!

For CD, dwarfs, O&G and TK which are basically gunlines (in most instances) you probably want to double out as many armies as possible to maximise the chance of forcing your opponent to set up as far away as possible and let you shoot the crap out of them as they advance on Battle for the Pass.

Yeah of course but thats the comp right? the "softer" armies get a bit of a boost (in this case higher comp score, in JanComp more points ect.) so kinda goes without saying, No?

I wasn't admittedly thinking about gunlines and the cost of going first/BFtP outweighing concessions.

Well standard of discipline and crown command bring beastmen down to a 3, then down to a 2 if you take the every popular lvl4 death. The soft choices in my opinion make a difficult army to play even harder, I really struggled to make a list under the comp that was higher than a 3.

But a 3 is where I reckon you want to be mate for Beastmen.

My Prelim-DoC list is a 1, just to get the +Roll against 0 armies.

Having tried the comp out I am still of the opinion (for Daemons) a comp score of 3 would give an advantage. The soft comp options are still good choices - Nurglings, Seekers, Burning Chariots, Bloodcrushers

If only Gnoblars were in the soft choices. There is literally nothing I would take from soft, well maybe a gorger for Warmachine hunting or possibly a stonehorn.

Herald of Nurgle (210)
BSB, Regen
Herald of Nurgle (90)
45 Plaguebearers, FC, Swiftness (630)
12 Beasts (720)
2 Nurglings (80)
5 Furies of Nurgle (70)
5 Plague Drones, Poison (300)
5 Plague Drones, Poison (300)

Comp score of 6, and do a Ben Curry deploy in a long line and march them off the back board edge?
Could even drop 2 PB's, 2 Beasts and the Furies for Epi and get a comp score of 5.

Comp score = 5 - 1(12 Beasts)-1(5 Plague Drones)-1(5 Plague Drones)+1(2 Nurglings)+1(Mono God)
= 5-1-1-1+1+1
= 4

Are all the Beasts in one unit?

No Magic +2. So no, a comp score of 6.

Yeah the Beasts are 1 unit. Also, slight fail on the points as the BSB you'd probs not have a Greater Gift (Debates, saving you 50 points and drop a Plaguebearer to get you another beast.)

Also the only good soft choices aside from nurglings (because they're cheap) are Fiends and Flamers, crushers are okay-ish.

Well the list has gone in, with a comp score of...2!

Here's hoping I get the +2 to making the choices as can be critical, especially getting first turn at "removing" certain things before the opponent gets to use them...

We'll see how I do on Tuesday!

As Rob said

Entrants updated, the following reserves have made it!

Mark Casley P212
Rossi Hunter P213
Warren Brewster P214
Slawek Sasula P215
Sam Davies P216
Ben White P217
Old Ross Stevenson P218
Ian Ralph P219
Mike Ralph P220

Money across asap please.

I am off to the US tomorrow for a week, so will not be in super regular contact here. Russ is the person to deal with regarding lists and rules questions (russ.veal@talktalk.net). If you are dropping please continue to contact me in the usual manner and I will get back to you on my return.

If you are in the top 5 on the reserves I would suggest (as russ did) getting your list in. I am aware there are at least 2 more possible drop outs due in the next week.

See you all soon! hastagPumped

YES, THIS DOES MEAN YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR LIST IN

So does that mean there have been 20 drop outs since the tickets went on sale? 10% of the field who signed up couldn't actually make the event a mere couple of months later. People really are nuts for the SCGT hype!

Cool, can provide the building and impassable terrain. No joy with the hill tho.

And Ross, you'll need to let them know you aren't available.
