Bear Wars: format and fixtures

Postby ScaredOfCrows » Thu Sep 18, 2014 12:47 pm

BEAR WARS. 17 players. 3 Battles (conferences).

Battle for Alderaan:
Cai
Vargas
Nightwing
Thunderchild
Scott33
JasonT

Battle of Yavin:
CaptainJay
Maelzch
Canadian_import
Hymirl
Nekhromosis
DeadMetal

Battle of Endor:
Jum_Lumsden
Loki
Skindog
Hung
ScardeOfCrows
Bluffreggie

Games
The regular season will consist of playing all other players in your conference plus 1 additional, Interplanetary Game. When the regular season is complete each player will then play 2 playoff games.

Regular season games should be played in any order they can be arranged. I'll create a thread. Go now. Do!

Additional Interplanetary Game
After all players have played their first game, the draw for the additional interplanetary game will be made. Winners of their first game will play other winners and losers of their first game will play other losers. Draw will then be for swiss pairings based on the Margin Of Victory scores of the first game with an adjustment to favour inter-faction games). These games will immediately be added to a players regular season and should be played like any other.

JasonT - Rebel -------------- vs --- Canadian Import- Empire
Maelzch - Rebel --------------vs --- Cai - Empire
ScaredOfCrows - Rebel ---- vs --- Scott33 - Empire
Dead Metal - Rebel --------- vs --- Skindog - Empire
Hung - Rebel ---------------- vs --- OJ - Empire
Vargas - Rebel -------------- vs --- Jim_Lumsden - Empire
Loki - Rebel ----------------- vs ---- Nekhromosis - Empire
Hymirl - Rebel -------------- vs ---- NightWing - Empire
Thunderchild - Rebel------- vs ---- Bluffreggie - Rebel

All regular season games, including the interplanetary game, should be played by Thursday 6th November.

Playoffs.
When the regular season is complete, results will be pooled and playoff brackets (4 Player groupings) will be created. Players will then play 2 playoff games to determine final Bear Wars league standings. The Bracket a player qualifies for will determine the final position they can achieve.

It would be perfect if the four players in a bracket could meet and play their playoff games together one evening.

Playing
Games will be 100 point dogfights using squadron lists built using normal squad building rules and selected from the ships in your hanger. Games are to the death. Fantasy Flight Tournament rules should be used where possible and appropriate.

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/x-wing/support/faq/X-Wing-Tournament-Rules.pdf

Players earn League Points at the end of each game as follows:
• Match Win = 5 League points
• Draw = 1 League point
• Match Loss = 0 League points

Margin of Victory
At the end of each match, the player who has destroyed more squad points adds the amount by which his score exceeds his opponent’s score to 100 and records it. The player who has destroyed fewer squad points subtracts the same amount from 100 and records it.

If a player destroys all of his opponent’s ships, his opponent’s squad is worth 100 squad points, even if it is worth fewer squad points to begin with. If a player concedes the match, treat all of his remaining ships as destroyed.

Please include your margin of victory scores as well as the game result when reporting.

Breaking Ties
If players have identical win-loss records, the tie is broken based upon Margin of Victory. If still tied then on strength of schedule.

Reporting Games
I'll make a thread. One/Both player(s) should post their results after the game. Include the Squadron lists, game results, Margin of victory scores and any report or photographs. Also, try to agree on a pilot of the match and let everyone know why.

Fly Casual!

Sorry if I'm being dense, I'm not sure how the 2 additional games will work/be decided. I get first we each play every other person in our group (battle), but then wasn't sure how the pairings following that were going to sorted, random allocation?

1 additional game will be played on top of the conference games to make the regular season.

The additional game is a single swiss round calculated using results of all player's first games*. I'll do the draw and post the fixture as soon as we have all 1st game results.

Due to the nature of 'first round' results, pairings will be decided using Margin of Victory scores as the tie breaker.

*Mirror matches will be skipped where possible when calculating the fixture but winners playing winners and losers playing losers will remain top priority until fail.

So, if you lose your first game you will almost certainly play someone else who lost theirs and flies a diffrent faction. (Last place gets a bye)

I'll post a diagram or something..

Noob question, quite a few poeple have the Chardaan Refit (as an example), can ships with this be used as Rebel Aces isn't out yet. I know it's more clear cut for the pilots themselves as you have to have the card but I may have misunderstood what the orginal rules ment by proxying upgrades.

TBH I don't have enough games under my belt to scheme too much but in looking at Ians hanger and trying to 2nd guess what he'll have and then subsequently looking at whats in Rebal Aces, assuming he hasn't picked Rebel Aces up today can he only field the two Hwk's and the X-wing? Are Nera, Keyan and Jake in other packs?

I'll be honest, I'm mostly confused rather than anything else

As far as I'm aware that's the situation, so assuming he doesn't have aces he only has one possible list

Proxied upgrade cards are allowed but not until they are available to buy. So a proxied Chardaan refit card as can be used as of today because it is contained in the Rebel Aces expansion which is now officially available. A proxied 'Stay On Target' upgrade card could not be used until the YT-2400 pack is released.

Hi Ian, see you in.. not long :)...

The real question is did you get your sweaty paws on the Rebel Aces box yet :)

Basically, I had picked a list but 'metagameing' would mean that if I knew for sure that you would definitely only have the 2xHwks and Tarn to choose from I might change what I take.

I'm happy to stick with my original choosen line-up, just interested what 'information' I'm supposed to base my decsision on.

See you in a bit.

Farlander stress removal

Looks as though Rebel aces will be in our hands soon. Until FFG updates the FAQ here is the BEAR WARS ruling on Farlander's ability. As I was considering running Farlander I went outside for advice and got a comprehensive reply:

ScaredOfCrows said: On September 13, 2014
Do we have a ruling on Farlander’s stress removal ie. can he remove it with the same freedom that Garvin spends focus?

Theorist said: On September 13, 2014
Farlander has almost the same freedom as Garvin, offensively. You may spend 1 stress to turn 0 eye results into 0 hit results — all you need is a legal target to shoot at. Unlike Garvin, you are limited to spending 1 stress per attack… and can’t spend Stress defensively, the way Garvin can spend Focus defensively and still pass it.

mu0n said: On September 13, 2014
Also, under Blind Pilot, you can still spend (both Garven and Farlander, offensively)

Additional regular season fixture

The picture is becoming clearer for the 'extra conference game' which will be added to your regular season. As I can deduce, these should be the results and MoV scores of the 1st games you all played.

I'm aware that they were not necessarily played in the order they appear in the results thread and have corrected to the best of my knowledge.

Please check your own result and MoV score and let me know of any changes that need to be made. When this is done, I will sort out the fixture.

JasonT - Rebel- W - 173
Maelzch - Rebel- W - 169
ScaredOfCrows - Rebel- W -164
Dead Metal - Rebel- W- 145
Cai - Empire - W - 200
Skindog - Empire - W - 160
Scott33 - Empire - W - 146

Canadian Import - NYP
Bluffreggie - Rebel- NYP

Lost 1st Game
Hung - Rebel- L -75
Vargas - Rebel - L - 54
Loki - Rebel- L - 36
Hymirl - Rebel- L - 31
Thunderchild - Rebel- L- 0

For purposes of clarity here is an example of how things would tun out as they currently stand.

JasonT - Rebel- W - 173 vs Skindog - Empire - W - 160
Maelzch - Rebel- W - 169 vs Cai - Empire - W - 200
ScaredOfCrows - Rebel- W -164 vs Scott33 - Empire - W - 146

JasonT would have played Cai but, as they are in the same conference, have been switched with the next appropriate pairing, Maelzch and Skindog.

Dead Metal, with no other winner to play against will play the highest ranking Imperial loser, currently OJ.

This is an example only, intended to illustrate the formulae. Stuff will almost certainly change when the remaining 1st games are played.

Can we play the additional game as soon as everyone has played their first game (cough, bluffreggie, cough), or do we clear the league games off first?

JasonT - Rebel- W - 173 -------------- vs - Canadian Import- Empire - W- 200
Maelzch - Rebel- W - 169 -------------vs - Cai - Empire - W - 200
ScaredOfCrows - Rebel- W -164 ---- vs - Scott33 - Empire - W - 146

Hymirl - Rebel- L - 31 ------- vs - NightWing - Empire - L - 0
Thunderchild - Rebel- L- 0 - vs - Bluffreggie - Rebel- NYP - 0

Red text indicates where a switch has been made to avoid a repeat fixture

What's the plan on endor? Bluffreggie is clearly a no show, and even if he isn't he's never gonna get his games in by November 6th. Any alternatives? Win to each if his opponents with a MoV of 100 (keeping it low to mitigate the free 5 points)?
