Sam Vs Dave (Loki)

Win to Sam
160-40 MoV

Pilot of the match I think was Dave's A-Wing that just kept on fighting despite all of his buddies giving up the goat pretty easily, Dave did well to get all of my ships to a weakened state but couldn't deal that final blow, he managed to drag the Defender down in the end.

Loki vs Hung

Hung - Rebel
B Wing Dagger Squadron Pilot (24)+ Fire Control System (2) + Ion Cannon (3)
Garven Dreis (26) + Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6) +Shield Upgrade (4) +R2-D2 (4)
Dutch Vander (23) + Ion Cannon Turret (5)

Loki - Rebel

Tycho Cechu (26) + Cluster Missiles (4) + Push the Limit (3) + Munitions Failsafe (1)
Airen Cracken (19) + Wingman (2) + Concussion Missiles (4) + Munitions Failsafe (1)
Bandit Sq Pilot (12)
Luke Skywalker (28)

Win to Loki, 100-26

MoV 174-26

An unfortunate left rather than right turn as intended put Dave's B-wing plans in trouble right from the start, when his Y-wing parked on an asteroid things looked really bad. The red dice were rockin for me and Dave's fleet never really got out of the starting blocks. The B-wing manged to down Airean Cracken for a small consolation near the end.

We didn't think there were spectacular positives but Numpty of the Match definitely goes to the Y-wing for landing on an asteroid in the gun sights of three enemy ships.

Ok so game between Hymirl and CanadianImport.

I fielded Corran Horn and (oh surprise) two B wings. Pat had Marek Steele and 4 named ties.

For setup the Ties deployed in a block opposite my B wings and Corran set for the flank manoeuvre. Ties screamed in at speed 5 while Bs stalled and Corran pushed up too.

At this point Pat chin scratched about meeting Corran or pummelling through the B wings. He chose option B killing the advanced sensor B wing with Winged Gundark's autocrit before Corran got revenge with a double tap.

Not in a position for K turning my squadron tried to flee and jockey for position. The B wing lost more shields Corran K-turned on a rock losing a shield but managed to wade into the formation killing Mauler Mithel with his double tap.

The B wing inflicted a hit on something before Steele's marksmanship shot it dead. Both sides circled for another joust Corran killed Backstabber but lost his shields to Steele's cluster missiles.

So began a tailchase as Corran tried to regenerate shields with R2D2, but after circling the table for a bit this didn't pan out well, I K-turned and took down Dark Curse... with a double tap but went down to no shields in the exchange. Steele was left alone and gamely kept up the fight.

Steele had lost his shields earlier so it was down to the wire in the end Maarek lost position and had to make a predictable turn to avoid the table edge and Corran swooped in for the kill.

Win for Hymirl! 100 to 50.
MoV 150 to 50.

Scared of Crows vs Scott33

Kyle Katarn (21) + Push the Limit (3) + Blaster Turret (4) + Recon Specialist (3) + Moldy Crow (3) + Engine Upgrade (4) =(38)
Jan Ors (25) + Veteran Instincts (1) + Ion Cannon Turret (5) + Nien Nunb (1) + Engine Upgrade (4) =(36)
Tarn Mison (23) + R7 Astromech (2) =(25)

Dark curse 16pts
Major Rhymer- proton torpedos (4), proton torpedos (4)- 34pts
Saber squadron pilot (21)- elusiveness- (2) 23pts
Academy pilot (12)
Academy pilot (12)

SCCR wins 100 - 64

1/2 an hour in
Turn 5, 1st tun shooting. Jonas protons Kyle in the face: Injured pilot crit (no more pilot ability and push the limit is flipped over). Jonas is unable to evade returning fire from Kyle and Tarn and is destroyed. Heavy.
A free-for-all ensues and both squads lose shields, hull then ships and pilots at an even pace.

2 hours in
Tarn and The Sabre Squadron explode in quick succession leaving an undamaged Jan Ors up against two, undamaged, Academy Pilots. Inspite of the advantage of having more points on the table the ion cannon is not the ideal weapon when 6 hits are needed to close out a game. As I was capped at dealing only one damage per round of shooting it meant that if was to to win the game It was going to be really f**cking long.

3 1/2 hours in
Jan, 1 health vs single Academy, 1 health. A final head on rush resulted in a focused TL'd shot from the ion cannon that the TIE could not evade.

Scott smashed it. He's not played X-Wing before this tournament but can barrel roll a tie Fighter better than anyone I've played. S*** was annoying. Closest game with the HWKs so far.

Hi Ian,

Don't think my or Hungs number of games played has been updated, I'm definitely 4 and I think Hungs is 3. I also don't think Hungs points from our match have been added, my MOV is correct though.

Vargas vs JasonT

Vargas:

Keyan Farlander
Biggs Darklighter
Nera Dantels
Z95 bandit

JasonT:

Wedge Antilles
Ten Numb
Biggs Darklighter

Result:

Vargas 175
JasonT 25

Ship of the match:

Z95 - it never ceases to amaze me how much these guys do. They always seem to kill ships and last through the game as they're such a low target priority. This chap finished off the game by flying his ship in front of Jason's remaining B-Wing on one health and stunned pilot (takes damage when overlapping another ship) who flew straight into him.

A special mention to Keyan Farlander who continues as my favourite rebel pilot.

Thanks to Jason for turning up early at short notice to get the game in.

Hung (Dave)
A Wing Green Squadron Pilot (19) + Veteran Instincts (1) + Assault miss. (5) + Stealth Device (3) = 28
B Wing Dagger Squadron Pilot (24)+ Fire Control System (2) + Ion Cannon (3) = 29
Lando Calrissian (44) + Nien Numb (1) + Millenium Falcon (1) + Homing Missiles (5) = 51

CaptainJay (OJ)
4 Academies 48pts
Howlrunner + Stealth device(3) + Determination(1)= 22pts
Shuttle(21) + FCS (2) + Vader (3) + Engine Upgrade (4) = 30pts

Assault missiles against a mini-swarm, marvelous!

The game started off with the Dave’s entire fleet facing off against the shuttle and the mini-swarm slightly off to the side. Turn 1 everyone advances cautiously. Turn two the swarm splits into 2 to avoid the missiles, the shuttle surprises the b-wing by boosting up in front of it, forcing a bump and denying it’s action. The shuttle then blows off one of the a-wing’s shields and it’s stealth device, while lando with focus one-shots a tie fighter (which had a focus token and proceeded to roll all blanks).

The shuttle doesn’t move, the b-wing k-turning behind it to shoot it in the side for it’s troubles. The ties further split apart and Lando ends up parked on an asteroid in between them. The a-wing shoots it’s assault missiles, but fortunately is evaded by the plucky tie-fighter. Howlrunner and 2 focussed up ties tear some chunks out of Lando.

The ties continue to swarm, lining up shots on the b-wing, which continues ahead, while the shuttle does a hard 2 to finish off the a-wing (vader utilised for the final hull), lando k-turns, and blows off howlrunner’s stealth device and two hull points.
The shuttle nails Lando (Vader not required), while howlrunner and the remaining ties line up shots on the b-wing after it k-turned, a lowly academy punking it out.

OJ Win, Dave Loss
MoV 188-12

Man of the match, The shuttle. Having 3 attack, FCS, vader and a null-move can lead to the shuttle handing out a smack-down if it draws a bead on you (as shown by the 2 kills to it’s name).

Cai vs Scott.

That was a tough game.

Scott had:
Dark curse 16pts
Delta squadron pilot 30pts
Soontir fel (27) - Push The Limit (3) -30pts
Academy pilot (12) x 2- 24pts

I had:
Delta Squadron Pilot (TIE Defender) - 30 points
Soontir Fel (27) (TIE Interceptor) Push the Limit (3) - 30 points
Colonel Jendon (Lambda-Class Shuttle) (26)
Darth Vader(3), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), ST-321 (3), Tactical Jammer (1) - 40 points

I managed to explode two of the TIEs in the first round of shooting with some lucky dice, with Dark Curse falling soon after. Clever piloting from Scott brought down the Shuttle. The combined piloting of my Fel and Defender brought down his Fel, then my Fel was exploded by a three red dice hit vs three green dice blank from the Defender, leaving us both with a Defender each. I had the slight advantage in that I'd taken a point of hull damage, but his crit reduced him to PS 0 (both Defenders were down to 2 hull left, in case it's not clear...).

Some hokey flying later, including twice flying over 'roids with one hull left, I got the drop on Scott's Defender and brought it down.

Let me know if I've missed anything, Scott.

Match

CaptainJay vs. Canadian Import

- full details of both squadrons

Canadian import :

Maarek steel w/ cluster missile, marksman

Howlrunner w/ squad leader

Tie Royal Guard w/ push the limit

Saber squadron pilot w/ veteran instinct

Captain Jay :

Sontir Fel w/ push the limit

Echo w/ veteran instinct , Advanced Cloaking,  Fire Control System Weapons Engineer

Shuttle w/ Fire Control System,Vader, Engine Upgrade

- both player's Margin of Victory scores

Captainjay: Mov 170

Canadian import: Mov 30

- the story of how it went down

Having arrived a little late I found OJ playing a friendly game against Jason to whom we quickly treated like a lovable m32 under pass hobo and told him to beat it, and the captain and I began setting up for a head on imperial dog fight for the emperor.

Setting up his shuttle in the center deployment area, it was convenient that the initiative and pilot skill worked out, so that I was to place and move all my ships in one consecutive go and play out my turns always after the shuttle. So I chose to set up all of them on the right flank of the board in a side by side line.

"Oh captain, my captain" ( name the movie) placed echo kiddy corner to my squad and Soontir to the right flank of a towering shuttle. It almost looked as though he was up to something....

Turns out after not flying in a straight line, balls out, at my group line up of flying aces ( lesson learnt me thinks ) and maneuvering like what Goose from top gun would have done if he was telling maverick where to go, Captain Planet, expertly maneuvered, boosted and barrow rolled Soontir out of Marrek Steels ark of fire (1-2 mm out as he was expecting cluster missile love in the face*) and got within range one of howlrunner. Amazing!

But wait there's more!

My forces blindly paying attention only to Soontir, learned the hard lesson of how fast echo can get up on your rear. Like the last words of Tonto when he said to the Lone Ranger after running out of bullets and surrounded by 100 mounted Indians.....Mareek heard a very distressed Tie Royal Guard over the communications saying..." we big heap trouble"

Captain crunch was pleased with himself.

Movement over it was time to shoot...

Soontir unleashed a whirlwind of laser pain and took howlrunner to school with three glorious hits. She did her best, but howlrunner manage only one evade on the dice and use her evade token to finally get slapped by the last shot.

Howlrunner was a good student though and returned the same amount of hits on Soontir or should we call him " soontobedead " because whatever he was doing in that cockpit wasn't flying as a result of three blank evade dice wiped any sence of accomplishment off captain America's face to a jaw dropped expression of " I can't believe that just happened".

Just leave him in the hangar OJ...

Moving on to the only one left to shoot, Captain "dickinson"** (not an insult.... really....promise... keep on reading and you'll get the reference ) aimed a very vengeful Echo and fired 5 dice and five hits to one shot my Tie Royal Guard out of existence and then disappear again.

The song "fear of the dark" is very appropriate for the remainder of this game should it ever become a Broadway musical.

Apart from howlrunner taking one hit, every other ship and every following turn was only leading to the inevitable one shot kills by Echo.

My crew was dropping like flies.

I had three ships, and three turns to watch them die.

-Interceptor died at the hands of Echo

-Vader crushed Howlrunners fuselage only to watch her carcass float in multiple detections after blowing up.

And finally....

Captain "mean" raised my hopes and making me think after I k-turned Mareek, that Echo would face off in a head to head confrontation, like the one between "sex machine" and the Vietnam war veteran from Dusk till Dawn***

But then coming to his sences barrow rolls Echo at the last second and plows three hits and two crits into my side.

With one evade managed and his shields gone I draw my fate leading to the final card saying, "take two damage"

Kablam-mo!

It's safe to say, I will be picking  up a phantom. Not for its killing ability but the pure fact that it looked so cool and fun to fly.

Well played CaptainJay

*FYI... The missile where never going to be used on Soontir.

**Bruce Dickinson is not only lead singer of iron maiden but is also a fully qualified airline pilot. Making him a Captain and ties into the running gag I've got going over the entire course of this write up.

*** great movie

The smart flying of Corran and Tycho gave the rebels a new hope but the when the empire strikes back things can go badly for you. Tycho went down in a blaze leaving the rebels with Corran on 1hp. He made a good fist of it but couldn't see of the finals ties, win to Paul. So Hymirl vs Deadmetal!

The invincible Corran Horn with all the things and his B wing buddies face off against the mighty Chewbacca (with C3PO) with Wedge and a B wing in tow. We set up in diagonally opposite corners with a pretty random scatter of central asteroids between us.

We both move up and turn in, quickly glossing over how I bump all my ships into each other we have a first pass where we trade B wings. Corran chases Wedge down getting the kill with his double tap, meanwhile Chewbacca chews my last B wing down to its last HP and I blow it up crashing though an asteroid attempting to cause a bump.

Corran makes an attack run on the falcon double tapping for heavy damage but chewbacca hits back with triple crits making R2D2 scream and get to work regenerating.

I set Corran on a long 2 bank circle to get some shields up and although Chewie dodges arcs well he finally loses his last HP to more double tapping and Corran continues his victories!

Victory for the rebel allia....oh.
Hymirl wins. MoV 150 to 50.

And as we were packing up I noticed that Ians Hwk580 list was getting a long overdue pounding... dum Dum DUM!

Bluffreggie vs ScaredOfCrows

Wedge Antilles X-Wing (29), R2-D2 (4), Proton Torpedoes (4), Marksmanship (3) =(40)
Horton Salm Y-Wing (25), Proton Torpedoes (4), Ion Cannon Turret (5) =(34)
Rookie Pilot X-Wing (21), Proton Torpedoes (4) =(25)

Kyle Katarn (21) + Push the Limit (3) + Blaster Turret (4) + Recon Specialist (3) + Moldy Crow (3) + Engine Upgrade (4) =(38)
Jan Ors (25) + Veteran Instincts (1) + Ion Cannon Turret (5) + Nien Nunb (1) + Engine Upgrade (4) =(36)
Tarn Mison (23) + R7 Astromech (2) =(25)

Bluffreggie wins 99-0

A clean, clinical game from Bluffreggie resulted in a hammering for the HWKs.

Dan set up and flew his ships in a different direction than everyone else has when playing the 580: Messsed with my head yo. He was also, apparantly, in no mood for any s**t and refused to let the HWKs get away with any of their usual tricks.

Horton and Wedge took out Kyle before he got a shot off.
Jan was then ioned and proton torpedoed to death by Horton.
Wedge and the Rookie circled round and lit up a drifting Tarn who, in turn, had been caught by the blue lasers of the moustachioed badman.

Dan flew really well and focused his fire like a boss. I could have done better I s'pose but all credit for the result goes to Dan. The dice were showing us equal favour and he was able to vapourise all my ships in under an hour!

That ends a 12 game winning streak for the HWKs. Probably for the best: I was in danger of becoming a complete p***k!

Jim vs Hung. Last match in my conference (for me at least)

I lost again.... haha I'm doing so badly.
I lost everything and Hung lost all but a 22 point x-wing.
So Hung gets 122 and I get 78

Lists:
Hung: x-wing, a-wing with assault missiles, lando
Jim: acad pilot, acad pilot, howlrunner, tie-bomber and whisper.

Was a very close game. Lost my phantom in one round of shooting, and then Hung lost the a-wing and the falcon the turn after!

Loki vs Bluffreggie
127 vs 73

I had Luke Skywalker and unnamed e-wing, a-wing and two Z95s.
Dan had Wedge, Horton and Unamed x-wing all tooled up with torps.

This went down to the wire with a show down between Wedge and the E-wing on 1 hp each. The manoeuvreability of the E-wing proved the difference in the end but could have gone either way. A very enjoyable game.

Dan Didn't quite realize how far a 3 bank goes, The TIE mini-swarm scared Horton into full gear & he forgot there's a perimeter XD

I've flown Boba Fett off the board 3 times now. I was within 2-3 millimeters of 'fleeing the battlefield' in the recent Bracknell tournament. I knew the move was a risky one but it saved him from being shot by 2 HLC B-Wings and definitely won me the game.

Results added to table.
