Hilarious if a bit harsh!

I admit I did think Soontir was being very bold charging head on at a pair of B wings with no mates. My experience of taking my interceptors off the table after betrayal by green dice would have made me advance less boldly had it been mine.

Getting a hit with the unobscured ion cannon was fair enough though, 3 attack dice with focus verus 3 defense dice with focus. Things just got hurried on a bit to the showdown between Corran and Echo which was always going to be the decider really.

Right. My original post on this was mostly an 'in' joke between OJ lee and I. OJ and lee spent the evening deliberately mispronouncing Ibtisam's name to bait me.

OJ missed his flank move by millimeters, dice happened.

Case f***ing closed.

Vargas vs Cai

Vargas

Corran Horn:
PTL
FCS
R7T1

Airen Cracken:
VI

Biggs

Z9 bandit squadron

Cai

Echo:
VI
FCS
Recon specialist
Advanced cloaking device

Soontir Fel:
PTL

Delta Squadron Pilot

Game:

A game decided entirely by dice rolling. Cai didn't do anything wrong but his dice were dire. I on the other hand rolled hits and evades exclusively. This was a less a game and more a reminder of how cruel the dice gods can be. Sorry Cai!

2 Games

Game 1

Jake Vs Lee

Jake
Wedge Antillies (29) + push the limit (3) + R2 Astromech (1) = 33
Chewbacca (42) + C-3P0 (3) = 45
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Lee
Etahn A'baht -EWing (32) push the limit (3) advanced sensors (3) R2-D2 (4) Hull Upgrade (3) = 45
Bandit Squadron Pilot -Z95 = 12
Bandit Squadron Pilot -Z95 = 12
Biggs Darklighter -XWing (25) R2-D6 (1) Shield Upgrade (4) Veteran Instincts (1) = 31

Great game, Biggs and Wedge both went down early leaving Chewie and a Blue squad to fight it out with Ethan and the Bandits. Chewie shot all of Ethan's shields off in one turn forcing him to fly off for a bit and let R2 fix him up, allowing me to take out the Bandit squads, but not before losing the B wing! This left a fairly healthy Chewie facing off against Ethan and after some great flying all round (Ethan even lost all his shields again and ended up on 1 HP) Ethan killed the Wookiee.

Lee wins 100-55

MoV to Lee 145 - 55

Game 2

Jake Vs Paul

Jake
Wedge Antillies (29) + push the limit (3) + R2 Astromech (1) = 33
Chewbacca (42) + C-3P0 (3) = 45
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Paul
Tie Fighter – Black Sqdrn pilot (14) + Vet Instincts (1) = 15pts
Tie Fighter – Black Sqdrn pilot (14) + Vet Instincts (1) = 15pts
Tie Fighter – Black Sqdrn pilot (14) + Vet Instincts (1) = 15pts
Tie Interceptor – Tetran Cowall (24) + Vet instincts (1) = 25pts
Tie Bomber – Capt. Jonus (22) + Cluster Missiles (3) + Assault Missiles (5) = 30pts

A rarely seen bomber takes the field! This started off looking like a pretty good fight with Chewbacca being taken out fairly early (even after excellent 1 dice evade rolling), but that was followed by a disastrous round of K-turning for the TIES leaving most of them facing away from (an untouched) Wedge Antillies. Being unable to shake him properly due to stress the TIES were rapidly dispatched leaving a still untouched Wedge and a B-wing on 1 HP staring down Capt. Jonus. Jonus shot his Assault Missiles at Wedge with the B wing looking like He'd be caught in the blast... 3 blanks and a focus, after that it was over and the B-wing scored the final shot.

Jake wins - 100-45

MoV to Jake 155 - 45

Cai vs Nightwing.

I had:
Soontir Fel (27) (TIE Interceptor) Push the Limit (3) - 30 points
"Echo" (TIE Phantom) Veteran Instincts (1), Fire Control System (2), Recon Specialist(3), Advanced Cloaking Device (4) - 40 points
Delta Squadron Pilot (TIE Defender) - 30 points

Nightwing had:
Mauler Mithel (17) + Veteran Instincts (1) + Stealth Device (3) = (21)
Winged Gundark (15)
Darth Vader (29) + Elusiveness (2) + Stealth Device (3) = (34)
Kir Kanos (24) + Royal Guard Tie (0) + Stealth Device (3) + Hull Upgrade (3) = (30)
(Edited!)

Where Vargas completely outdiced me in our game, I outdiced Nightwing in this one. The hero of the match has to be the Defender, who's failed K-Turn caused a massive road block, allowing me to line up some tasty shots with The Baron and Echo...

100-0 to me. MoV 200-0? Is that right?

I also played Jason T.

I had the same list (although I reckon the shuttle would have made a massive difference - friendly rematch with my Shuttle, Jason?).

Jason had:

Ten numb 31, marksmanship (3) advanced proton torps (6) munitions fail safe (1) = 41
Wedge antillies29, marksmanship (3) =32
Biggs, 25 r7 Astromech (2) =27

There was some clever flying from both of us, and I learned just how bloody rapid Echo can be, but in the end it came down to dice. When you get four hits on Biggs, and he then rolls three evades, you can see where the game is going. xD

No real pilot of the match, but comedy moment award goes to Biggs. After finally being reduced to 1 HP, and suffering from the critical that meant if he overlapped any obstacle, he'd take a point of damage, he decides to bloody off himself by flying straight in to the nearest 'roid. Do not pass go, do not collect £200, just ka-boom.

100-27 to Jason. MoV 173-27? I think?

Gaaaaaaames!

Yes, you are MoVing correctly Cai!

Nightwing, please check your list/hanger and that I have copied it over correctly/Cai remembers who flew etc. No biggie if a mistake has been made your end (as you lost the game). let me know and you can drop VI from Mauler or something for future games.

A rare, but fluffy, Bomber-Falcon encounter brought to us by Jake and Paul. Apparantly Jonus was the guy bombing the asteroid field when Han, Chewie and Leia were hiding in what turned out not to be a cave.

Seems Biggs was concerned that he might survive a game and took matters into his own hands! Nice one JT.

Results added to table.

Guys, do me a solid and check I have recorded the scores correctly. Feel free to post sarcastic memes if I have made a mistake.

My other game of the night was against Jake (deadmetal).

I used ethan, the pair of z95's and biggs, whilst jake was using the falcon with chewie and threepio, an x and a bwing (names escape me).

Jake went for the run down one side, I started centrally and immediately cocked up my formation flyig by getting the dial muddled for one of my two z's

We pretty much barrelled into each other pinging away ships fron eah other, leaving just Ethan vs Chewie. This resulted in a chase around the board, with R2 pumping ethans shield back up. In the end, I went for glory, turned to face the pursuing falcon and shot it down!

Final score, 100 -55 to me
So that's 145 points to me and 55 for jake?

E-Wings with R2D2 have really impressed me. Was it 9 hits he took throughout the course of the game?

This one has already been added to the table. No double points for you!

Vargas vs Nightwing

Vargas:

Keyan Farlander - veteran instincts, advanced sensors
Nera Dantels - deadeye, munitions fail safe, Flechette torpedoes
Biggs
Z95 bandit squadron

Nightwing:

Darth vader - stealth device
Kir kanos - hull upgrade, stealth device
Mauler mithel - stealth upgrade
Winged gundark

Result: Vargas 170, nightwing 30.

This was a much closer game than the score line suggests. Biggs had no right to be alive at the end of the game - both he and the bandit squadron flew the last few turns with 1 hull point. Keyan poses too much of a threat being able to target lock and focus every turn and he did the majority of tve heavy hitting. Darth vader bullied Nera into a fairly swift exit without firing her ordinance once!

The key moment I the game came when mauler had biggs at range 1 and landed three hits. Biggs had 2 hull left and a focus. Therefore he needed at least two focus to survive on 1 hull point. He rolled 2 evades leaving him to shoot back with a focus. All four dice resulted in hits after spending the focus killing mauler - this swung the game heavily in my favour.

Keyan impressed me most of all. What struck me most about him is how differently he flies to a normal b-wing. He actively wants to use the red maneuvers on the b-wings dial. He flies like a completely unique ship and I'm going to fly him a lot.

Yep, Keyan was an absolute beast! I think I knocked a shield off him, but couldn't touch him otherwise, due to his ability to pull red turns and K turns so often. Made him much harder to pin down, and he was able get in good shooting positions almost every turn.

Cheers for the game Vargas, I'll get you next time

You had removed all of Keyan's shields - he had 3 hull left.

A pleasure to play you too, I'm sure you'll have your revenge!

- Match result...

Canadian import win by TKO against Maelzch

- full details of both squadrons

Canadian import:

Maarek stele - tie advance w/ marksman ship and cluster missile.

Winged Gundark

Backstabber

Dark Curse

Mauler Mithel

Maelzch:

Etahn A'baht - E-wing w/ advanced sensors, r2-d2, haul upgrade.

Z-95 headhunter.

Z-95 headhunter.

B-wing Blue squadron .

- both player's Margin of Victory scores

Canadian import: 200
Maelzch: 0

- the story of how it went down

Lee set up with what seemed to be confidence in his two headhunters in the center ready to take on the empire. Etahn with b-wing setup to the right facing a corridor of asteroid free space.

Facing Ethan ( as I prostituted my game idea to the sole idea of " MUST CRUSH E-WING " ) I set up everything directly across from Etahn except for Mauler Mithel to face Lee's Z-95 on his own.

First few turns showed a display of  fierce and aggressive forward movement and it wasn't long till the fire fight between us started. At this point it's worth saying that the only sparks flying were that of Lee's #24 headhunter demonstrating that you can 50/50 grind an asteroid whilst in perfect formation. ( picture the "wingman" elite card with an asteroid being used as a grind bar and vomit all over the internal canopy of the first ship). And despite all of the shooting and dodging it was a piece of terrain that took first blood. Well.....spilled some blood anyway...* face palm *

Eventually I came to my sences and asked Lee to shut the music off ( star wars soundtrack ) as there was a lot of fancy flying to be done and full concentration was needed to kill all other ships before dealing with Etahn. THIS WAS GETTING FUN! There were appalling rolls by both sides. B-wing was hounded and should have died in one turn. It ended up taking 4 turns to swarm kill it!!!
Lee on the other hand was pulling out his hair as his ships would not stop rear ending each other and desperately trying to regroup in some order. 3 hours later we decided we would need to call as it was 11pm on a school night and in twenty minutes end things. All of a sudden roll became better and shot were getting through and within that time the last Z-95 died despite trying it's hardest to take down a tie fighter. A very healthy Etahn was alone to fight ALL named tie fighters that had holes and chunks missing out of the fuselage but still flying. Surrounded and limping Etahn died by a two dice shot through an asteroid at range 3 which resulted in a two hit critical card being pulled.

- the pilot of the match!

Winged Gundark ( kill shot of the night )

Dave (Hung) v Sam (Skindog)

Sam 158
Dave 42

Sam list
Delta squadron
Academy x3
Howlrunner

Dave's list
Lando + falcon + homing missiles + falcon
Green squadron A wing + ass missiles +vet ins + stealth d.
Rookie x wing pilot

Pilot of the match : tie defender

Basically a match that involved parking up in the middle of a solar system somewhere and our ships just taking pot shots at each other . Then the Defender , after floating about doing decisive damage , decided to do some handbrake turns to show off and left an academy tie to finish the x wing off right at the end.

Jim vs Ian.
The Hawks continue their rebel rampage across the galaxy.

Jim's list 100:
Bounty Hunter (33) + Recon Specialist (3) + Stealth Device (3) = (39)
Soontir Fel (27) + Push the Limit (3) + Stealth Device (3) = (33)
Omicron Group Pilot (21) + Darth Vader (3) + Engine Upgrade (4) = (28)

Ian's List 99:
Kyle Katarn (21) + Push the Limit (3) + Blaster Turret (4) + Recon Specialist (3) + Moldy Crow (3) + Engine Upgrade (4) =(38)
Jan Ors (25) + Veteran Instincts (1) + Ion Cannon Turret (5) + Nien Nunb (1) + Engine Upgrade (4) =(36)
Tarn Mison (23) + R7 Astromech (2) =(25)

Ian wins 200, 0.

But what a game. Very very close!
We opened by carefully edging our way around the back of the asteroid field. Ian played safe, trying to draw me through the rocks and get me ioned out of position. I didn't let him and instead manage to sneak my shuttle round the back of the field behind the two hawks, but despite having a lovely close shot I failed to make anything connect. However, in the turn after, subsequent to sustaining a hail of ion and blaster turret fire, the shuttle found his mark and landed a hit on Jan, followed by a Vader for double damage (at the cost of it's last shields)! As the hawks swooped off back towards Soontir and the bounty hunter, the real action began!

Given the large turning circle of the shuttle it was out of the game for a few turns, and Ian took this chance to bring the hawks down on the bounty hunter and Fel. Shots were exchanged, resulting in Kyle losing a shield and 2 hull, whilst my force remained mostly intact... for now.

My luck was about to change however. Careful blocking and bad positioning got my bounty hunter stuck on an asteroid. Soontir was also caught in turret range of a Jan-buffed Kyle and sustained a withering hail of fire, narrowly escaping with 1 health. By the time the shuttle swung around it was too late; the nippy little hawks had boosted their way out of range and were laying a beating down on the BH. The dice were hot, and Ian rolling 2 hits and 2 crits, twice in a row, left poor old BH nothing more than a smoking wreck.

What hotness? You only have one E-Wing like Lee. And Etahn has burns covering 99% of his only lib the rebels could find. Any possible hotness you could have played with is still being package, is worth a quarter of your hangar and won't be here till well after our league games finish.

Everything else in your list was released prior to the z-95 making them older.

The only hotness you'll be flying is ships with console fires or flaming wreckage.

Then....

THEN!!

The imperial navy will burn your native home world.

(Ewok fur is highly flammable.)

Oh BURN! :p

Two blistering games of Xwing played last night here are the results.

Game one Thunderchild (Reb) vs Cai (Imp).

RESULTS:Gary(Thunderchild) 137 Cai 63

Game Two Gary (Reb) Vs Scott (Imp).

RESULTS: Gary 128 Scott 72.

Game one highlights. Loosing 3 ships to a Vader shuttle only to have the game end with a nail biting face off between a loaded Wes with R2D2 Vs Soontir Fell. A great game, many thanks to Cai for being a great opponent.

Game Two. So many mistakes!(On my part) I successfully introduced Scott to the wonders of the Ion Turret and how a predictable Soontir is often a dead Soontir. Due to my inept flying Lt Blount went most of the game without an action. When he did (eventually) let his assault Missiles off he nearly managed to finish of Wes who was caught in the blast. I stupidly forgot that any ship at range one is affected not just the enemy. My Y wing was ship of the match despite taking a pounding from an enraged Saber Sqd pilot who after seeing Soontir Fel become one with the vacuum of space took the Y wing from full health to four hull in one round of shooting it hung on in there and helped me pin down those pesky interceptors. The game ended with me finally pinning down his lone Delta pilot who for some reason just simply refused to die. Some insane evade rolls from Scott led to another nail biting finish.

Great Game today against JasonT

A lucky win for me with a MoV 158 to 42

JasonT (Rebels)

Ten numb
Biggs
Wedge
(sorry i cannot remember exactly the load outs)

Scott33 (Imperials)

Academy pilot
Academy pilot
Dark Curse
Saber Squadron pilot- Elusiveness
Major Rhymer- Proton torpedoes x2

The game was fast and loose; the opening turns saw each fleet swing in from opposite corners, and by the third turn the lasers were flying. Biggs, by nature of his rule, was readily sacrificed to the tie swarm for a good firing position, however a k turning ten numb could not finish up the interceptor, when he used his elusiveness upgrade to force ten numbs crit to be re-rolled. Dark curse proved to be a particular difficult tick to remove for several turns, however wedge eventually blasted him into oblivion, taking advantage of some bad parking ontop of an asteroid. The following turns saw ten numb sandwiched between the tie fighters and finished off by Rhymer and the badly damaged but alive interceptor. The surviving Wedge then made a nuisance of himself, which resulted in the death of the interceptor and a mauling of Major Rhymer, only then to die to some very lucky shots at range 3, through an asteroid to two tie fighters.

All in all it was a jammy game from myself , the less we mention me parking on the same asteroid with 3 different ships, but great fun non the less.
