The Ebon Current Campaign Rulebook - v1.0

Postby Trumpkin » Sun Oct 19, 2014 5:25 pm

Hi all,

So here it is! The first version of the Ebon Current rulebook.

Tomorrow, I'll start kicking the campaign into action, but for tonight, have a look and tell me what you think. I'm going to work on one that incorporates the map and the fluff as well, but here're the rules for now. Click the pictures to enlarge them.

Here it is in (maybe slightly too large) PDF.

Thanks! I tried to make it look interesting. I've read a lot online about 40k campaigns, and people say they tend to lose momentum, meaning people lose interest and eventually leave.

I'm reckon putting in the extra effort now to make it that much better will help keep it fresh and exciting!

Also, later tonight everyone will start having access to their own private team-only forums, but I'll message everyone when that happens. It's all about to kick off!

Yep, sorry about that! It was orignally 6, but I came up with more. d12s are relatively common, or you could just roll a d6 then flip a coin. If it's heads, add 6, if not, then don't!

Thats cool. Im quite liking the idea of putting an orbital laser on a moon.

What would you reckon for suitable victory conditions for the laser mission?

That's basically up to you to decide. If you want to play a maelstrom/eternal war mission, then go for it, otherwise play it as a kill-points mission I would say.

I'm dropping off a folder at the duke tomorrow that contains a load of custom scenarios and missions from old WDs. Will be for old editions of 40k but will be good inspiration source for players looking to go off-piste. Just make sure to agree with your opponent! Take it we can still invent scenarios as opposed to using a pre-determined list?

Anyone have a space hulk board? Could be good for scenarios.

I have the zone mortalis rules from the fw heresy books. If I get 5 mins I could write up a summary, that combined with heroquest boards would be pretty fancy for boarding action missions.

How we going to work in battles vs orks/ eldar?

Could do something like; if you lose your forces have been distracted, so next battle up to 1 third of forces must start in reserve.

Dunno about if you win though.

I was looking at easing myself back to 40k gently and starting with a skirmish. How would that work with the "must take your Genral in every mission", I have a relatively cheap personality but for my oppo it could be virtually impossible. I am reading right that Kill Team uses 200pt forces?

Basically do you have to take your force commander in Skirmishes?

Reckon that taking leader is optional for when it suits the narrative.
