Frostgrave? Really??

Postby Jamrowski » Fri Aug 21, 2015 7:01 am

......so, Frostgrave?

Looks like the kind of system you would either need to be Canadian or Desperate (or both! <wait a second - I know someone in that category!>) to play.

Would anyone (Canadian or otherwise) like to sell it's merits?

(Serously, I think the forum topic menu you are really looking for is Modern Wargaming / WW3 section and have navigated here in error <it's the one below this one from the main index:D >; with the forthcoming release of 'Team Yankee', this is where the action is going to be <unless of course Magic, pointy ears and men in skirts is your thing.....in which case you either need medical help or you need to play AOS>)

It's a very simple system... and wes likes simple mind.

Fairly fast game play built mainly around a campaign system (like necromunda or mordheim). This is a good little article to read if you want to know more: http://www.beastsofwar.com/frostgrave/f ... ozen-city/

And don't worry, I'm fully aware of Team Yankee... and I can at least claim to have played a game of 6mm Modern... unlike some.

DUST: SSU aka Soviets (anyone spotted the theme yet?)

Plus you only have to paint 10 figures. Even I can paint that many!

I painted me a Frostgrave figure !!!!

Admittedly it's an old Bretonnian Archer I had undercoated already and it's a bit rushed but hey ... it's a start.

Lets face it, if you played DUST, you wouldn't have to paint any models (all models come pre undercoated in their national base uniform colour and with Decals applied).

Plus circa 10 models plus maybe a walker gets you to the entry points level for a game (....I can already envisage CJ reaching for his wallet!!) :D

Just played my first game last Sunday at lincombe barn, and I got to say I loved it. The scenario that was used was the living museum. I only got hold of one of the treasures. Hopefully do better next time. Just got 5 members playing this at the barn so far.

I got a feeling I can rope my rpg group into this. All ready got most of them into bushido, so should not be that hard to get them into playing this great little game. ;)
Games to be played and have played. Bushido, all quiet on the martian front. flames of war late. Judge dread, x wing, battle tech, fantasy battle 40k, epic. destopian wars, dread fleet hell dorado, relics, bolt action, dust tactics.

The good news for everybody is that Mantic Games are going to save you - literally!

The new Warpath Kickstarter is underway: http://kck.st/1L0yn4h

So, sell your Frostgrave stuff and invest in a 'proper' system

So I've got to pay $135 (inc P&P) for a starter set containing some Dreadball figures, Speeder Bikes, and Piranha's, in 12 months time,

vs £30 all in for Frostgrave which others are already playing now?

Meh ... ;)

Listened to Fools Daily podcast and Frostgrave sounds ace. Maybe it's because I'm becoming an 'old man gamer' these days but random encounters and grabbing treasure and legging it away from monsters sounds like way more fun than lining up two forces for a battle.

I believe there are ... 6 of us at the club seriously interested, plus that many again at Lincomb Barn so we could be ready to start a proper campaign really soon, and maybe some inter club fun as well.

Plus I've actually read the rules AND painted my war band. [Shock ... Horror!]

Well I gave in and ordered the rulebook. The mini range is excellent and reasonably priced, plus I guess I can use whatever other suitable mini I fancy. I can manage another 10 models on top of my Guild Ball team.

I'm at least trying to avoid the big money sinks like GW and Privateer Press (or SW: Armada, for that matter). The historical stuff will hopefully be financially manageable.

It's not too bad. Plastic Soldier Company produce some great stuff at a very good price for 15mm. I was stupid enough to go with the Soviets though, which can get a little pricey purely because you need loads of everything.
