Warband - reaper bones

Postby Dave Fraser » Wed Oct 07, 2015 1:46 am

So I backed the first reaper bones kickstarter and got 300ish models from it. I've painted most of the big dragons and stuff but not used much of the infantry so thought frostgrave seemed like a decent chance to get some use out of them.

For those that don't know the bones material it's a squishy/bendy plastic material that is really cheap to make figs from, the downside of this is cleaning moldlines is a bit of a faff. The reaper range is vast so a load of really nice wizards in particular which made me think of them being great for this project.

I've now cleaned up about 30 models (a painfully slow process) and tonight have started putting some paint down. I aim to do a warband first off then will probably start hitting up different wizard types and then finally a bunch of monsters for random encounters as there were a load of them in the KS too.

Sounds good mate. Let us know if you want a game soon. CJ and I will be starting to get some specialised terrain put together over the next month or so (Halloween permitting) with the hope of starting a little campaign later in the year.
Flames Of War: Soviets
Team Yankee (6mm and 15mm): Soviets
Bolt Action: Soviets
DUST: SSU aka Soviets (anyone spotted the theme yet?)
Star Wars Armada: Imperials (Space Soviets, a long, long time ago)
Epic Armageddon: Imperials (Space Soviets, in the grim, far future)
Frostgrave: Dwarves (Short Soviets)

Here's the first guy painted. Doesn't quite fit any of the character types in the game but probably use him as a thug.

Been remiss in updating here, up to 4 guys done.

Next was the pirate (admittedly not dressed for a frozen wasteland but carrying treasure so fits in that regard).

.
That last one is crying out to be used as an Apprentice Dave.

Wicked painting as always mate. Particularly love your eyes (Err .. your miniatures, not ... um, yours). The great thing with Frostgrave is you can use ANY figures you like, or have to hand.

So looking forward to the November onwards when we can start the campaign proper.

For some reason the first image of the guy carrying stuff didn't load for me straight away... so I thought his back was his front... which was brilliant. I was looking for some hands and maybe eyes sticking out of the massive pile. Then the front image loaded and, while still very good, wasn't quite as funny.
Now I want to find/make a model which is just a heap of junk with a couple of legs at the bottom.

Hmm I've got a few different ideas for apprentices, most of them looking more wizardlike than this guy, but that's actually a fair call for how to use him.

Eyes are relatively simple, once flesh basecoat is down I put a dark grey (DCA Panzer Grey) into the eye socket, then line it with an off white (GW pallid witchflesh) then just spot on the middle of the eye, often as a line. If it goes down the cheek you just tidy up the flesh basecoat before then working up the skin highlights. Just need a good tip to your brush and the right consistency of paint so it flows but doesn't run.

Stu - that sounds awesome! I can totally picture it as a pair of bowed legs and just this mound of stuff with a couple of hands sticking out the front holding it all.

Overall crew I think I'm going to go for:
Wizbang
Apprentice
2 Thugs (probably the two peasants)
2 Thieves (pirate & one other)
1 Treasure Hunter (mr shovel)
1 Apothecary (Reaper model picked out for this)
2 Dogs (bought a pack of the frostgrave ones with the book)

For the wizards I've got about 20 all split into pairs to be wizard and apprentice combos so just need to pick which pair to do first!

Looking well shiny! Putting my Warband to shame.

I also think the choice of models is excellent to. That Apothicary could double as a Necromancer no trouble.

Not quite as happy with how this turned out, something just never clicked with it.

I like her. Reminds me of the Courier driver who arrived yesterday with a parcel for me. (Female, Blonde, Mid 20's, 5'4", Cute, into Nickleback. Thor bless you Hermes and your "Signed For" service!) :D

And I decided to start with a wizard I painted about a year ago, so the warband is done:
