Ah, but its not the length of the pencil, etc.
Imo it comes down to the style of play you prefer, and how much time &£ you have to throw at painting tanks.
Plus, tanks are not everything in TY; all the infantry bristle with AT, so it's not all that clear cut.

British infantry AT is amazing (a mix of longer and shorter range, with credible AT values), but I thought most others didn't have quite enough punch to defeat ERA? RPGs etc are enough to threaten softskin vehicles, but I thought not most MBTs, even in assault?

That said, the difference between tanks with "1st rate" Chobham/BDD protection, and tanks with Bazooka Skirt is significant - the latter can certainly be threatened by man-portable weapons.
