DATES TAKEN FROM THE ROYAL ARCHIVES (SR stands for "Solar Reckoning", noting the number of years following the Endless Night)
Pre-history: The Unnamed God creates the world.
-1200 SR: The rise of the elven empire.
-800 SR: The first human and dwarven kingdoms arise.
-750 SR: The Church of the Unnamed God erects temples across the land. Slowly, the elves are identified as "inferior", and their pantheon false.
-690 SR: A popular, but racist, priest of the Unnamed God is killed by an elf. Skirmishes erupt across the world, leading to all-out war.
-620 SR: The human kingdoms defeat the elven empire. The elves scatter into clans and disperse across the land.
-275 SR: As the human kingdoms expand their influence and place sanctions on trade between "lesser" races, the dwarven kingdoms begin to openly rebel. An unlikely alliance is formed between themselves and the orc tribes - a race already warring against the human kingdoms - and the world experiences a second civil war.
-200 SR: The Cataclysm occurs. The Endless Night begins. The elves claim the Cataclysm signals the revival of their pantheon; the humans preach that the Unnamed God caused the Cataclysm out of anger for mankind's xenophobic and bloodthirsty ways.
1 SR: The sun comes out, ending the Endless Night.
4 SR: The Prophet Lewan begins preaching. He claims that the Unnamed God had forgiven mankind, and that His forgiveness had ended the Endless Night. In order to maintain His favour, the Unnamed God's will is translated into the Lewan Tome - the holy book.
35 SR: First contact is made with the gnome and halfling settlements.
41 SR: After numerous wars short, but bloody, wars between the human kingdoms, the realm of Allansia is founded on the edge of the Great Sea. Though neighboured by other human kingdoms, Allansia maintains a position of strength, enough so that its growth and development proceeds unchallenged. The Drathas Treaty, so named for the first king of Allansia, is signed between the human kingdoms, bringing a premature end to potential hostilities.
63 SR: The northern kingdom of Karfel attacks Allansia's border garrisons without provocation, but their planned invasion is brought to a decisive and bloody end by a herd of orc barbarians. Allansia's armies, when they arrive at the northern edge of the realm, find the dismembered corpses of Karfel's entire battalion. The remains are burned in the field where they lay, scorching the earth and rendering it barren.
202 SR: The dragons, not seen since the Cataclysm, return to the world. They are the first of the creatures long thought extinct to emerge from the darkness.
206 SR: The first dragonborn, a nomadic wanderer called Heskan, is encountered. Though fearful, the village of Greenwich provides him sanctuary; in return, he tells its citizens of his people, and promises that they "Will enjoy Allansia just as greatly, when they come." The dragonborn's words sparks terrified rumours among the nobility; they begin training their militia more severely for an invasion that never comes.
560 SR: The Black Witch, the first recorded half-elf, is born and immediately abandoned by her clan. A wandering woodsman discovers the infant and takes her home.
680 SR: The Black Witch is blamed for a number of misfortunes occuring in rural settlements close to her home. Disgruntled militia soldiers try to end her "curse" by sealing her in her home and burning it to the ground. The Black Witch's infant child dies in the fire; she herself barely survives.
682 SR: The Black Witch reappears, systematically attacking the villages alongside an army of the undead. The survivors request aid from neighbouring garrisons; the soldiers sent to deal with the "half-breed" are slaughtered. The Black Witch retaliates against the garrisons and kills all within. News quickly spreads throughout the human kingdoms.
683 SR: As more forces are brought to bear against the Black Witch, the undead press further out into the world. Every slain soldier inflates her armies. A human lord requests aid from the neighbouring elf clans, but they refuse. However, when elven scouts are killed by the Black Witch's undead soldiers, the elves agree to the alliance.
689 SR: When the Black Witch claims that she will bring about a Second Cataclysm, purging the "taint" of mankind from the earth. An alliance of the various races forms in order to stop her.
690 SR: The Black Witch is captured. She is publicly tortured before being drawn and quartered; her remains are scattered across the world and her possessions sealed away. Her undead forces are cut down.
691 SR: The Inquisition is formed, and given the authority to police the use of magic. In particular, they are tasked with the investigation and surveillance of known practitioners of necromancy.
694 SR: A respected and aged dragonborn scholar, Tiberus, returns to his city after years of wandering the length and bredth of Allansia. He shuns contact with his peers and seals himself away in his study.
695 SR: Tiberus ends his self-imposed exile. It is revealed that, during his travels, he had learned of the existence of a number of different Gods from numerous different Clerics, and compiled his notes and observations in a gargantuan tome called the "Religious Codex." This book, when released, faces instant criticism by devotees of the Unnamed God, but despite their anger acceptance of the new Gods becomes widespread within all levels of society. As knowledge of the new Gods is shared, their devotees - who had previously worshiped them only in secret - begin revealing themselves.
697 SR: The Church of the Unnamed God calls a tribunal, in the hope that worship of the new Gods would be declared heretical and illegal. However, Clerics of the new Gods display their divine favour and, through their performances, the evidence needed to prove their existence. Ocker, the leader of the opposition, calls upon the Church to do the same, to prove that the Unnamed God is likewise real; when no Cleric is presented, the opposition is deemed the victors of the tribunal. Worship of the new Gods is made legal by Royal decree, and temples are erected across Allansia, and attended by members of various races.
714 SR: Crown Prince Balaeth is born.
723 SR: As worship of the new Gods becomes more widespread, the influence of the Church of the Unnamed God dwindles. Members of the Church try to prove publicly that their God exists, but fail to provide adequate proof. Devotees of the faith face further public ridicule, and their temples empty.
740 SR: Balaeth's coronation.
742 SR: The scholar Vexalis suggests that the Unnamed God, if he exists at all, is not responsible for the creation of the world, and asks that the Lewan Tome and Royal Archives be amended to give credit instead to the new Gods as a collective. King Balaeth refuses, stating that no man can truly know how the world was created, making the current text just as valid as the alternative.
770 SR: King Balaeth's life-long ambition to overcome the animosity between the elves and humans begins bearing fruit. New trade agreements between the races are signed, and the human king decrees that each human city with elven inhabitants must have a temple built for the elves to worship their pantheon.
790 SR: Whilst out hunting with his friends from the elven clans, King Balaeth is murdered - his remains show that he had been drawn and quartered. Many quietly blame the elves for the death of their king, despite the fact that elven hunters were found in a similar condition. Two months later, his daughter, Varia, is coronated.
791 SR: On the anniversary of the King's murder, a robed figure enters the bedchamber of Queen Varia. Though he does not harm her, he is captured by her kingsguard and sentenced to death. Before being hung, he proclaims loudly to be a member of the "Cult of the Black Witch", and warns that his dread mistress will return to the world. The Inquisition's mandate expands as they are tasked with the investigation and eradication of the Cult.
800 SR: Anorok, the first dwarven city to be constructed above ground, is completed. Located along the King's Highway, the dwarves receive far greater trade with the other races.
