Painting interior floors

Postby Wiggles » Sat Mar 26, 2016 6:57 pm

I need some advise on painting interior floors of destroyed buildings.

The problem is that the interiors are rather untextured yet have some features (fallen beams for e.g.) on them. Painting just the features will make them look unfinished.

I'm thinking of leaving the base colour as is, giving it a ticking black wash then giving it splochy brown washes to get a brackish look then subtly highlighting the features.

Whatever I do it has to look reasonableish but more importantly be easy and fast.

I'd appreciate your input.

P.S. the walls will be based landlord pale yellow then weathered.

I think you've pretty much answered your own question there Seb. I'd hit everything with a highlight, wash it, give it a second, lighter highlight/drybrush, then pick out the detail as you said. Also maybe put a darker wash around the floor/wall perimeter when the walls are done, a sort of 'tide mark' like Stu did on the Frostgrave terrain.

I do like it when I do that, but it's good to have confirmation. Thanks!

Like my Dad used to say, when someone asks for your opinion on something, they don't really want it ... they just want you to confirm what they already know.

Good luck with the project buddy, and keep us ... posted. ;) (See what I did there.)

Hairspray or salt weathering works really well for sci fi era. I'd imagine something similar would look cool if you got the colours right for fantasy
